The parking signs indicated you had to go to the hotel reception to book the parking or a £100 fine. So I queued up and talked to the receptionists at the hotel and they didn't seem to know anything about getting external parking permission.
They were able to confirm it was OK.
I don't think it was good value for money, there was some uncertainty about the space on my part but I knew I had book a parking space..
